The Kieni Factory, located near Karatina in Nyeri County, Kenya, is a vital part of the Mugaga Farmers’ Cooperative Society. Serving around 1,000 members, the factory processes cherries grown primarily by small-scale farmers. Each farmer typically manages about 200 coffee trees on a tenth of a hectare.

The cooperative is renowned for producing coffee of exceptional quality, focusing on varieties such as SL28 and SL34, along with Batian and Ruiru 11. This coffee is washed processed, resulting in distinct flavour notes of currant, blackberry, and cola.

Managed by the Mugaga Farmers’ Cooperative Society, which supports over 4,800 farmers, the cooperative not only focuses on quality but also on empowering women and young people in agriculture. With a third of its members being women, Mugaga is making strides in gender inclusion within the coffee industry.

Enjoy this light roast espresso, which captures the unique flavours and dedication of the Kenyan farmers who produce it.
